Now, you’re probably concerned about a few things–the price, the safety, and which bike to buy in the first place for your youngster. So, here are eight of the best dirt bikes out there for 6-year-old riders:

Along with the overall price and safety features, these bikes have some awesome features that make them ideal for young riders.

Bike Model Price (New)
1. Yamaha 6-Volt Ride On Bike $135
2. Aosom 6V Kids Ride On Bike $125
3. Kuberg Young Rider Trial E $1,300
4. Yamaha PW50 $1,500
5. Honda CRF50F $1,600
6. Yamaha TT-R50E $1,700
7. Suzuki JR 50 $1,100
8. KTM 50 SX Mini $3,850

1. Yamaha 6-Volt Ride On Bike

Yamaha produces great dirt bikes for riders of all ages and experience levels. The Yamaha 6-Volt Motorcycle is a great electric dirt bike that will help your youngest rider get a good feel for dirt bike riding.

What’s the Price?

This electric bike from Yamaha costs between $100-$135. You can find this bike in various places online, so I would definitely look around to see what your best options are.

How Safe is this Bike?

I would consider this bike incredibly safe for your young rider. Of course, kids and adults seem to manage to get hurt anywhere. It’s all about how safe your kid rides and the level of supervision they’re under.

But, here are some awesome features on this bike that will surely contribute to your child’s safety during their ride.

Training Wheels:

One of the biggest aspects to successful dirt bike riding is developing balance on the bike. This electric bike from Yamaha includes training wheels that are sure to help your kid get the hang of staying steady on the bike while it’s moving.

Low Top Speed:

Speed is another big factor to consider for a beginning rider. The Yamaha 6-Volt Motorcycle has a top speed of 2.5 mph, which is a good speed, in my opinion, if your kid is just getting started and is still a little unsteady while balancing or riding on a regular bike.

Steel Frame:

The bike also has a steel frame. This is a good sign in my book because it shows that this bike will be more durable and reliable for the many adventures that your six-year-old will go on.

Why this Bike is Great for 6-Year-Olds

As far as all the safety features go, I think this is an excellent dirt bike for a six-year-old who is just starting out or who simply wants a fun toy to ride around the yard and neighborhood.

A few things to consider about this bike is that some reviewers have considered it to be a little small for some children. But, if your kid is on the smaller side for their age, than I think this bike would be just fine for them to ride on.

2. Aosom 6V Kids Electric Motocross Bike

Aosom is perhaps a less known brand for electric dirt bikes, but I’m thoroughly impressed with this 6V Kids Ride On Electric Motocross Bike from this company.

What’s the Price?

This electric dirt bike from Aosom costs about $125. You can find this bike on Aosom’s website here or Walmart’s website here.

This bike has some awesome features and great reviews that make this a good looking bike on the inside and the outside in my eyes.

How Safe is this Bike?

Safety is up to you and your kid while they are riding, but I will definitely say that this bike from Aosom has some great features that will surely contribute to your child’s overall safety while out riding and having fun.

Here are a few great safety features that I think are worth knowing about:

Low Top Speed:

Speed is part of the fun of riding, but it’s also where kids can get into trouble. That’s why the lower top speed on this bike is a great safety feature in my book. If your child is still getting used to steering well and balancing, the bikes top speed of 2.5 mph should help keep your kid safe while learning and having fun.

Lightweight Bike:

Another concern that I frequently see with kid dirt bikes is the bike’s weight. So, in a lot of cases, lightweight bikes are better for beginning riders, especially when they are very young.

This bike from Aosom has an overall weight of about 17.6 pounds. For the most part, if the bike tips over, your kid shouldn’t have any trouble setting it upright again, which is great reassurance in itself.

Training Wheels:

This electric bike also comes with training wheels. Balance, as I’ve mentioned before, is crucial to learning how to ride a dirt bike effectively. This bike’s training wheels will help your kid get used to riding the bike and balancing on it before they start riding without that aid.

Why this Bike is Great for 6-Year-Olds

I think this bike is an excellent choice for young, 6-year-old riders. My main thought, though, is to make sure that your kid will fit comfortable on this bike. This bike has a weight capacity of 55 pounds.

If your child is heavier than that, or their knees hit the handlebars, this bike is too small for their rapidly growing body, and they’ll need a bigger bike instead.

But, if your kid is lighter than the weight capacity and on the smaller side in height, this bike is a great option for a new rider.

3. Kuberg Young Rider Trial E

Kuberg is an awesome company that’s on the higher end when it comes to high-quality electric dirt bikes. The Kuber Young Rider Trial E Dirt Bike is a great place for a 6-year-old to get started with dirt biking.

What’s the Price?

The Kuberg Young Rider Trial E has a suggested retail price of about $1,300. This bike is definitely more expensive than the other electric dirt bikes we’ve talked about, but I think the overall quality and safety features make it worth the purchase. Plus, it’s still cheaper than most gas dirt bikes!

You can find more information about this bike and where you can find one on Kuberg’s website here.

How Safe is this Bike?

Kuberg has really outdone themselves with the safety features on this youth rider bike, and I’m super impressed. Here are some major safety features for the Young Rider Trial E dirt bike:

3 Power Settings:

This bike has an overall top speed of 17 mph, but don’t let that worry you. It also has a three power setting system that allows you to set the bike’s top speed to fit your child’s riding capabilities. And, as they gain more experience, you can up the setting.

Safety Kill Switch:

The safety kill switch is another cool feature that is sure to keep your young rider safer if they fall off the bike. The safety kill switch connects to the bike and a wristband. when the switch is pulled out, the bike’s motor immediately stops.

So, if your kid fell off the bike for some reason, the bike will stop and not cause more damage to itself or your kid while no rider controls it.

Long Battery Life:

Bikes from Kuberg also tend to have longer battery life. The Trial E dirt bike has a battery life of up to two hours. I like this feature not only for the longer fun aspect but also for the fact that you don’t have to worry so much about your kid getting stranded with a hunk of metal that won’t move because the battery ran out of charge.

Why this Bike is Great for 6-Year-Olds

I think this bike is a great fit for your six-year-old wherever their experience level is because you can adjust the bike’s speed as needed.

Yes, this bike is a little more expensive than other electric dirt bikes, but it will also last your child several years and allow them to get a real feel for a dirt bike (without the noise that most gas dirt bikes produce).

4. Yamaha PW50

Yamaha produces excellent quality dirt bikes, and youth dirt bikes are not excluded from this rating. Many of the famous motocross racers out there started out with a bike from Yamaha–namely, the Yamaha PW50.

What’s the Price?

The 2020 model of the Yamaha PW50 costs about $1,500 new. As far as kid dirt bikes go, the PW50 is definitely on the cheaper side, but it’s never a bad idea to look for owners who are selling their used bike in pretty good condition.

How Safe is this Bike?

Yamaha has designed its PW50 to be a super safe bike to help your youngster learn how to ride and to have a good time while doing so. Here are a few great safety features worth mentioning:

Adjustable Throttle Restrictor:

The adjustable throttle restrictor is a great safety feature that will ensure your kid doesn’t go faster than they can handle. The adult in charge can adjust how far the young rider can turn the throttle, giving them more freedom as their skills increase.

I think this is definitely a great way to make sure your kid can have fun and increase their skills without biting off more than they can chew. Plus, since you’re able to adjust the bike’s speed to your kid’s experience level, this bike is sure to last you a few years as your young rider learns to ride.

Fully Automatic Transmission:

Dirt biking properly can be a bit confusing for a beginner, so it’s definitely a great feature that this bike has a fully automatic transmission. This simply means that your kid doesn’t have to worry about shifting while they are first learning how to ride.

With this system, your kid can focus on balance and steering instead, as well as controlling their speed and braking. Keep it to the basics while their learning. I see no better way to keep them safe.

Grippy Footpegs:

Maintaining their balance and grip on the bike is one of the most important things to keep them safe while their out riding. The grippy footpegs on the PW50 are a great way to keep your kid stable while their riding.

And, if your kid is ready for more of a challenge, the footpegs will help them stay firmly on the bike even while they’re standing up while riding.

Why this Bike is Great for 6-Year-Olds

I think this bike is a great fit for your six-year-old if they are ready to get into dirt biking more seriously. As far as a beginner bike goes, this bike is an excellent fit.

I will say, though, that if your kid feels a little uneasy about it, get them more comfortable balancing on a regular bike or an electric dirt bike. That can help them transition to gas dirt bikes.

5. Honda CRF50F

Honda is honestly on the top of my list for reliable, reasonably priced youth dirt bikes, and the CRF50F seems as reliable as any of them. This bike has gone through very little changes over the years–a good sign that the bike’s design is stable and long-lasting.

What’s the Price?

The 2020 model of the Honda CRF50F costs about $1,600 new. Honestly, though, you can definitely find a used model since it’s so popular and kids grow out fo them overtime. Take a look around to see if there are any parents selling their kid’s bike for a cheaper price.

How Safe is This Bike?

The Honda CRF50F has some awesome safety features that ease my mind, as I’m sure they will ease yours. Here are some great features on this bike that help keep your kid safe and have fun while gaining more experience riding:

Adjustable Throttle Limiter:

The adjustable throttle limiter is always a good way to ensure your kid is safer while riding. Whether your kid is just starting out in the sport or has a little more experienced, you can adjust how much they can twist the throttle (and, therefore, how fast they can ride) so that it meets their experience level and riding capabilities right now and in the future.

Automatic Clutch:

Another great thing for beginning riders is to not have to worry about a clutch while they are first learning to ride. The Honda CRF50F has an automatic clutch, which gets rid of extra complication during the learning process.

Instead of using the clutch, the rider uses a simple shift system to shift between neutral and three other speeds. This system is easy, but it still helps young rider’s get an idea about changing gears.

Keyed Ignition:

Keyed ignition is also another great feature that makes sure your kid stays safe while you’re not supervising, too. If you’re not going to be home and you don’t want your youngster riding while you’re gone, you can simply take the key out and feel at ease. If there’s no key, there’s no engine startup.

Why this Bike is Great for 6-Year-Olds

Yeah, the bike might be a little too heavy (weighing about 110 pounds) for a six-year-old to lift alone, but with attentive parental supervision, advice on how to get the bike back up after it’s tipped over, and sheer youth determination, I think any six-year-old who’s into dirt biking shouldn’t have too much trouble figuring out how to make it work for them.

This dirt bike is definitely on the top of my list for my young riders when they are ready to dirt bike. I really like how this bike has an automatic clutch and an adjustable throttle limiter. What a great way to start out kids a step at a time in the sport! Altogether, I think this bike is one of the best dirt bikes that accommodates all youth experience levels.

6. Yamaha TT-R50E

Here’s another excellent quality bike from Yamaha. The TT-R50E stands as a great transition bike from the PW50 and a bigger bike while still keeping a lot of the safety features on board for your young rider to take advantage of.

What’s the Price?

The 2020 model of the Yamaha TT-R50E costs about $1,700. Whether you want this bike brand new or not is up to you, but you can definitely find this bike used on sites such as Cycle Trader and such. Just look around for a good deal and quality.

How Safe is this Bike?

This bike has several great safety features that enable your kid to be extra safe while also having a good time on their ride. Here are a few of these features:

Front and Rear Drum Brakes:

As fun as acceleration is to a kid on a dirt bike, it’s very important that they can slow down the bike to turn or stop. That’s where the front and rear drum brakes come in handy. These brakes provide riders on the TT-R50E with dependable power to stop the bike when they need to.

The rear brake is accessed through a foot pedal on the bike’s right side, so your kid can slow down the bike just like some of the other big dirt biker’s do on the Yamaha YZs.

Adjustable Throttle Restrictor:

The adjustable throttle restrictor is always a great feature to see on youth bikes. If your kid is just starting out in the sport, go ahead and set the throttle to only reach lower speeds.

If your kid has some more experience and is ready for the challenge, go ahead and let them control the bike’s speed a little more. It’s all up to you and your kid’s comfort level, and the adjustable throttle restrictor makes the process easier and more comfortable for you and your young rider.

Automatic Clutch:

The automatic clutch is a great way to help kids get used to operating a more mature dirt bike but with less complication. The Yamaha TT-R50E has a three-speed gearbox, which allows your kid to easily shift through the gears as their riding environment requires.

Why this Bike is Great for 6-Year-Olds

I think this bike is a great fit for most six-year-old kids who are still in the beginning stages of learning how to dirt bike. The seat height is relatively low at 21.9 inches, so your kid shouldn’t have too much trouble holding up the bike on their own.

If you’re worried about your kid being able to control the bike and balance on it, go ahead and restrict the throttle speed availability so your kid can practice some of the basic and important skills at a slower, more controlled, speed.

Altogether, this bike has great features that accommodate young riders of various skill levels in dirt biking. It’ll be no sweat for a six-year-old to ride.

7. Suzuki JR 50

Suzuki is another great dirt bike company coming from Japan. The Suzuki JR 50 has been a popular kid bike for several years. Although the company stopped making this model after 2006, I’d say this bike is worth looking into if you can find one for sale.

What’s the Price?

The 2006 model fo the Suzuki JR 50 costs about $1,100 new, but, as I said, the company stopped producing this bike after 2006. These bikes are still around, however, and you can find them being sold by owners for cheaper prices.

How Safe is this Bike?

This bike was built with the focus of helping kids learn without adding too much complication that some other bigger bikes have. Here are a few great safety features included on this bike:

Low, Adjustable Seat Height:

The 2006 Suzuki JR 50 has a seat height of 18.9 inches, so the bike is designed to fit even some fo the smallest riders. But, if your worried about your kid growing out of this bike within a year, rest at ease.

This bike is also designed with a height-adjustable suspension, so the bike can continue to fit the needs of your growing rider.

Built-in Throttle Limiter:

This bike also includes a built-in throttle limiter. Some kids out of thrill or terror twist the throttle a little too much and zoom across the trail without knowing how to control the bike at that speed.

The built-in throttle limiter is a great asset in this case as it allows the adult in charge to adjust how much the young rider can twist the throttle. So, if your kid still needs some time practicing at a slower pace, they can without them or you worrying about them losing control of the bike.

Automatic Clutch:

The automatic clutch is also a nice touch on this beginner dirt bike. Suzuki really focuses on helping kids focus on the basics before they learn how to use a clutch, so this bike has a single-speed transmission that will allow them to do so.

Why this Bike is Great for 6-Year-Olds

I think this is a good fit for a six-year-old who is on the smaller side or who is just barely starting out and needs to gain a lot more experience before upgrading to the bigger bikes.

I will say, though, that some kids might begin to be frustrated with the slower speed of this bike (as it doesn’t have the same speed capabilities as KTM or Honda bikes).

But if your kid doesn’t care too much about the speed and just wants to have fun while their learning, the Suzuki JR 50 is a great option for a beginner dirt bike.

8. KTM 50 SX Mini

KTM is one of the top companies that produce high-quality dirt bikes. The KTM 50 SX Mini is one of them.

Now, I will say, I think this dirt bike is a little big for the two-year-old in the video above, because he can’t touch the ground, but I don’t see any reason why a six-year-old should have any trouble with this great youth bike.

If you’re interested in finding more information about this bike, you can find it on KTM’s website here.

What’s the Price?

The 2020 model of the KTM 50 SX Mini costs about $3,850. This bike is definitely on the spendier side of youth dirt bikes, but you can always look for a used model or an older model that’s for sale to get a better deal.

How Safe is this Bike?

KTM has focused hard on making this bike a great machine for kids to have fun on while staying safe and learning. Here are some of the great features on this bike that contribute to young riders’ safety and fun experience:

Automatic Clutch:

The automatic clutch and transmission on this bike make acceleration and control super easy for any youngster to master with practice. With this system, your young rider can focus more on their environment and steering, helping them control the bike around their surroundings.

The automatic clutch can also be easily adjusted with the “KTM clicker system” for whatever requirements the rider or track have in place.

Front and Rear Brakes:

The front and rear brakes on the KTM 50 SX Mini come from FORMULA. These brakes offer superior stopping capabilities, which are crucial at any time while your kid is riding. These self-cleaning brakes are great for the race track or the trail.

Power Reduction Kit:

Although separately received from the bike, the power reduction kit can help young riders who aren’t ready for the full power of the bike be able to control it.

The kit has simple parts to install that reduce the power of the bike by about 70%. For powerful KTM bikes, this kit might be just what your young rider needs to get comfortable while riding.

Why this Bike is Great for 6-Year-Olds

I think this bike is best suited for a six-year-old who has some experience under their belt. The size should fit most six-year-olds, but the overall power and cost make me, personally, see this bike as a good investment for a young rider who has a passion for the sport. Thank you for reading!!!
